For my birthday me and my boyfriend decided it would be a fun idea to make a cake so here is what we did if you would like to try it too.

For the cake...
250g butter
200g dark chocolate
100g milk chocolate
300g caster sugar
4tbsp water
4 large eggs
200g self raising flour
75g chopped almonds
30g cocoa powder
Kinder Bueno
Magic stars

For the chocolate buttercream icing...
300g butter
540g icing sugar
4tbsp milk
180g melted milk chocolate

1. Preheat the over to gas mark 4/ 180C.
2. Put the butter, dark chocolate, sugar and water into a bowl. Now put this bowl on a high heat into the microwave for two minutes.
3. Once done take out the microwave and mix all the ingredients in this bowl together until they are completely melted.
4. Chop the 100g of chocolate into smaller pieces and gradually crack the eggs into the melted chocolate mixture.
5. Next pour in the cocoa powder, chocolate and almonds, mixing them all together.
6. Now its time to gradually add all the flour in stirring it in between.
7. You now have your cake mixture, so you need to grease proof 2/3 (depending on how many layers you would like, we chose two) cake tins and pour the mixture evenly into them.
8. Place your cake tins in the oven and bake for 22 minutes, keep checking the cake, you can tell when it is cooked by poking a knife in the centre and if it comes out clean then its ready.

While the cake is cooking you can now make your butter cream icing.

9. Beat your 300g of butter until its light, pale and fluffy.
10. Add half the icing sugar and mix. Then add the remaining half and carry on mixing.
11. Carry on mixing a little slower and add the milk.
12. Once you have added the milk you can pour in your melted milk chocolate and stir.
13. When you have taken your cake out of the oven leave it until they are completely cooled down.
14. Now they are cool you can cover each layer of cake with the butter cream starting with the top of the bottom later. Continue adding the layers on top and then do the outside of the cake.
15. The final stage is the fun one and thats decorating your cake. We decided to add magic stars to the centre and pieces of kinder around the outside.

Hope you enjoyed this recipe, let me know if you make this cake at home.
